A cinder cone is a conical volcano with a crater at the top. They are often surrounded by dark lava flows erupted from their base.
Cinder cones are usually monogenetic, but occasionally they may have sub-Plinian eruptions. They can be found alone, or in association with composite and shield volcanoes. They can also be asymmetric, elongated, or breached when the location of the vent shifts during an eruption.
Despite their diminutive size, most cinder cones are very active. They produce a wide variety of geohazards, including lava lakes, spatter deposits, pushups, and lava rafts that can cause erosion on their flanks.
The lamp of cinders is an item added in Twilight Forest. It can be obtained from the Giant Obsidian Vault in the Troll Caves, accessed through the Mushroom Vault found underneath Cloud Cottage in the Thornlands biome. The lamp can be used to burn the Thorns that fill the Thornlands, turning them into Burnt Thorns that players can pass through. Right-clicking the lamp will burn a single vine block, or holding and then releasing the button will “charge” the lamp and burn a 4x4x4 patch of thorns centered around the player. Using the lamp will unlock the achievement I Wish For More Burning.
