There are many different ways to decorate a living room or bedroom but none are as easy to do as buying lamps next to the. If you’re looking to brighten up the room and make it look far more appealing then you need to think about how you want your room to appear. For some people the room is purely as a place to relax so they don’t really want the lights in their room to be distracting, while others like their rooms to be more colourful and energetic. Decide on what sort of effect you would like before you start lighting. Some people will use a lot of candles whilst others prefer dimmer lights.
When choosing which type of lamp to get then remember that style comes first, then comfort and then function. For example you can get a floor lamp next to your television for added style, warmth and functionality, but if you’re more of a purist then you might also like to have a wall mounted lamp on your wall. If you have a large living room area then wall mounted floor lamps are excellent because they will add light and atmosphere to the room whilst taking up relatively little space. In terms of practicality, wall lamps are ideal because they require absolutely no extra space to install them. They are also extremely practical as they provide a constant source of light. However, if you don’t want your living room to feel too empty then you’ll probably be better off getting an overhead, table top lamp.
Another practical aspect of floor lamps is that they provide excellent task lighting. Think about how you work in the evenings and you’ll soon realise that having a good few floor lamps next to your computer is extremely useful. You’ll be able to see exactly where you’re working without having to waste time searching for the light switch, after all most modern computers will have LED backlighting these days. The brightness from an LED lamp is also great if you work in an office with low ceilings or other small areas that are hard to illuminate. It’s also good if you work late night and need to see clearly in the morning.
Floor lamps can also add an interesting aesthetic element to a room. You could choose something really unusual such as a ceramic table lamp or a crystal chandelier, if you’re not in the mood for something big and bright. I personally prefer traditional lamps so I wouldn’t think that a modern design would suit my home too well. If however, I had an unusual style bulb I may well consider it.
Floor lamps are also available in a range of different sizes and styles so you should easily be able to find one that fits in with your decor. Try to choose one that reflects the theme of your room. For example if you have a black and white bedroom you could buy a black lamp or pair of lamps. If you’re in a bright and spacious room then you could go for a lamp with a yellow base or even red and orange lights. This could even be achieved by buying a series of lampshades which can be changed and used to create the look you’re aiming for.
Finally, don’t overlook the usefulness of track lighting. As long as you position it so that it points directly at your TV you’ll be getting plenty of light for whatever you’re watching. I personally love these types of lamps next to the tv because they give you a fantastic view of the screen but are usually also very subtle. They don’t take up much space so you won’t be bothered about fitting them into your room at all. They can also easily be moved around to get the most suitable positioning.
